The Red Devils Poised to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants
Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.
A Marquee Acquisition for United
Schüller, who has six months remaining on her deal, is known as a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee coup for the WSL side.
Departure from Bayern has been anticipated after she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s fans after a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its leading forwards. According to multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.
Consistent Goal Threat to Boost the Attack
The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a major boost to the team's attacking options. She has been remarkably reliable in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.
- For seven consecutive seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Gathering Steam at Old Trafford
The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when the club appear to be gathering momentum.
Their recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the winter break has seen further business:
- The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.
Regarding the midfielder's new deal, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”
Lundkvist, who has joined from a side from the American league, added: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
