The President Calls Loved Ones of Shot Military Soldiers to the White House
Former President Donald Trump revealed on Sunday that he has invited the family of a Guard member fatally shot last week to attend the executive mansion.
He added that he contacted her parents and they were “devastated”.
Background on the Tragic Incident
US army specialist Sarah Beckstrom, twenty years old, was killed in a shooting on last Wednesday in Washington DC.
Her comrade, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, remains hospitalized in critical condition.
Memorials across West Virginia have occurred in their memory.
White House Offer
The commander-in-chief stated he’s proposed a meeting at the presidential residence for the loved ones of both individuals of the state National Guard.
“I stated: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a tough thing, arrive at the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to Sarah,” the president addressed the press. “And likewise with Andrew, no matter the outcome.”
Public Support
Community members assembled over the past few days at a local school in the state to honor Sarah.
Both she and Wolfe had been serving with the military unit as part of the president’s national effort to aid policing efforts in Washington DC.
Paying Tribute to Beckstrom
“Sarah was the individual that teachers hoped for. She behaved with quiet strength, a contagious smile and a upbeat demeanor that lifted those around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the principal of her alma mater, stated to the Associated Press. “She was caring, caring and always eager to support those in need.”
Service plans for Beckstrom are in the process of planning.
Legal Measures and Government Adjustments
Officials have indicted a 29-year-old Afghan national with one count of murder and charges of attempted murder while carrying a weapon.
The tragedy led the government to halt asylum applications and halt issuing visas to possessors of travel documents.
Status of the Airman
The airman, a resident of Martinsburg, enlisted in 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman High, as reported by the AP.
He continues to receive treatment and is “battling to survive”, the state’s governor Morrisey mentioned on television.
The state’s top lawyer the attorney general stated on the program that she planned to meet with the family.
Memory of the Fallen Soldier
Sarah, from her hometown, completed her education from her high school in mid-2023 and joined the military shortly after, serving as a military police officer with distinction, according to the military.
“She had a lot of goodness and she certainly had bravery,” he informed the audience at the vigil. “Though her time was cut short, she has created a legacy that’s going to endure.”
