The Porcine Pardon: Pig Named Six Seven Pardoned by Miami-Dade Mayor.
It might not have been at the same level as sparing Thanksgiving turkeys, but the county's top official had her own presidential-style act this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. She is worthy of this pardon. No offenses are on her docket,” stated the mayor in a speech with obvious nods to the sheer volume of executive clemencies issued from the start of the onset of a second term in office.
“If we disregard eating six or seven apples per day,” the mayor added. “Let this swine have a prosperous future without fear.”
This ceremony, either celebrating or rejecting the area's customary feast of feasting on pork during the holidays, was established to mirror the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The pig, provided by a local firefighter, was given its name from the current slang trend of young people exclaiming “six seven” – originating from a musical verse – often for no discernable reason. The trend became so pervasive that a prominent word reference recently made “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.
A Future Secured
This particular pig is now destined to live out its days at a farm sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the event’s official press release.
“The pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to begin the festive period,” said Eric Castellanos, in a decidedly positive message.
“It represents the essence of Miami: happy, varied, and based in heritage that bring people together. Every time, we are honored to observe culture and compassion in a way unique to Miami.”
Guests enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach croquetas and Cuban coffee as they celebrated the pig's pardon.
