Franchise leads Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are confirmed to return for the latest Hunger Games series film, The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping.
News has broken that fan-favorite actors Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson will reprise their iconic roles in the next chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. The project is now in the works.
A Major Reunion for Fans
The duo are returning as Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, the characters they made famous. It is believed their cameos will probably be featured in a flash-forward sequence, given that the main film series concluded with their characters settled into family life.
This signifies the sixth cinematic outing in the blockbuster Hunger Games franchise.
The Source Material
Sunrise on the Reaping is adapted from a 2025 novel by series creator Suzanne Collins. It acts as the follow-up prequel after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. Once again is Francis Lawrence, who has helmed nearly all the previous films in the series.
A New Era in Panem
The film's events are set 24 years before the first Hunger Games, focusing on a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, who would later become Katniss's mentor, is shown as a tribute in the notorious 50th Hunger Games.
The cast also includes several prominent actors in key parts:
- Jesse Plemons will portray Plutarch Heavensbee.
- Ralph Fiennes is cast as a younger version of the menacing President Snow.
What the Stars Are Doing Now & The Film's Schedule
Separately, Jennifer Lawrence stars in the film Die My Love. Josh Hutcherson stars in the sequel to the successful franchise Five Nights at Freddy's 2.
