Three members of law enforcement were killed and more than a dozen additional individuals got wounded in a seemingly deliberate blast caused by gas at a rural property in Italy's north.

The detonation occurred as police and firefighters approached the property in the vicinity of the Verona region to execute an eviction order for two brothers and a sister aged in their 50s and 60s.

Each of the three victims who died served in the Italian military police.

Investigation Developments

One male and one female got detained at the scene and a third person who fled subsequent to the blast was found not long after. The trio have been taken to hospital.

The explosion could be heard as far as 3 miles distant and footage from the location revealed the property left as a pile of rubble.

“This is a time for grieving,” stated the Minister of the Interior the Interior Minister, who added that previous tries had been made to remove the three siblings in the past.

The president of the Veneto region, the regional head, explained the residence was facing an court order due to unpaid amounts accumulated by the siblings.

Conflict resolution experts had been assigned to talk with the brothers and sister who had locked themselves into the property. When the police reached the location shortly after 03:00 (01:00 GMT), officials believe a family member caused the explosion.

“As we went inside, we encountered a completely deranged action,” regional commander the police commander told news outlets.

The wounded by the blast comprised an additional 11 personnel of the military police as well as three members of Italy's state police and a emergency responder.
