Arne Slot Insists He Feels Safe and Retains The Club's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Defeat
The Liverpool head coach conceded that it's understandable for concerns to be raised about his position after another convincing defeat against PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds suffered their 9th loss in 12 games, representing the club's worst streak since being demoted in 1953-54.
They were taken apart by the Dutch league title holders on a tough night at their home ground.
āI am feeling safe, I'm fine, I have got significant backing from the top,ā the coach commented.
āIt's important to reverse this trend and earn three points obviously but when you're coaching a team and not doing well then it is normal that questions are asked.ā
He continued, āI'm comfortable with my situation. This isn't the first time I've found myself in a tough spot but it's necessary that we improved our results.ā
Conversations with The Board
Upon being questioned to provide details on his discussions with the club's leadership, the head coach said:
āThere's regular dialogue. They are helpful to the team and for me and we have those conversations but they don't phone me every single minute of the day to say they trust me.ā
He further stated, āThrough standard discussions I perceive the trust. But I havenāt spoken to them after this match yet so it remains to be seen.ā
Persistent Failings and Player Response
Slot expressed regret over familiar failings from his Liverpool side in their Champions League defeat, specifically missed opportunities and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Jones was more forthright in his evaluation of the current crisis.
āI donāt have the solutions. Honestly, I donāt. I'm telling that to everyone,ā the midfielder stated.
āIt's simply not good enough. I donāt even need to wait to reflect. I'm beyond getting mad internally. Iām at the point currently where I just donāt have the phrases.ā
He went on, āItās hard because Iām playing for the side I follow. Iām a fan, and Iāve seen Liverpool all my life.ā
āIn a long, long time, I've not seen a Liverpool team going through a period like this with results like these.ā
Jones finished, āBut we continue to wear the crest on our chest. And as long as that badge is removed, we will always battle.ā
āOur aim is to bring this squad return to where it needs to be, demonstrate to all once more what Liverpool stands for and why people call it the top club in the world.ā
āAt this moment, things are bad and we have to turn it around.ā
